Lamborghini Gallardo 5.0 V10 Manual – 2004
The combination that is turning the Gallardo into a true collector’s car
Some cars simply grow older. Others reach a point where we realise they represented the end of an era. This March 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo undoubtedly belongs to the latter category.
Not only because of its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10, but above all because this particular example is equipped with the exceptionally desirable six-speed manual gearbox with Lamborghini’s iconic exposed metal shift gate. A combination that is becoming increasingly appreciated by collectors.
The Gallardo to have
The majority of Gallardos were delivered with Lamborghini’s automated E-Gear transmission. Cars fitted with the traditional manual gearbox are considerably rarer and offer a completely different driving experience.
Press the clutch, guide the metal gear lever through the open gate and decide for yourself exactly when that magnificent V10 moves into the next part of its rev range. No paddles and no electronics taking over the process: the driver remains at the centre of the experience.
It is a development similar to what we have seen with the Ferrari F430. Where the manual transmission was once simply one of the available choices, manual F430s have since become particularly sought-after among collectors. The same appreciation is increasingly developing around the Gallardo, as enthusiasts realise that the combination of a naturally aspirated V10 and a traditional manual gearbox is something we are unlikely ever to see again.
Naturally aspirated V10 – an exceptional chapter in automotive history
The engine alone makes the Gallardo special. Production cars powered by V10 engines have always been relatively rare. For the Gallardo, Lamborghini chose a high-revving naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10, without turbochargers and without artificial enhancement of its character.
The result is about much more than outright speed. It is the immediate throttle response, the progressive delivery of power and, above all, the unmistakable soundtrack of ten naturally aspirated cylinders.
Combine that V10 with a manual gearbox and you have a configuration that would be almost impossible to recreate in a new supercar today. This is precisely why the early manual Gallardo is increasingly establishing its place among modern collector cars.
Italian design with a Belgian touch
Stylistically, the Gallardo was also an important Lamborghini. Its design was developed under the direction of Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke, combining traditional Lamborghini design cues with remarkably clean and restrained lines.
The low nose, taut flanks, wide rear end and flowing roofline give the Gallardo an almost architectural simplicity. Subtle references to Lamborghini icons such as the Countach can be found in its lines, without the design ever becoming retro.
This is perhaps what makes the first-generation Gallardo more interesting today than ever before. Compared with the increasingly sharp and complex styling of modern Lamborghinis, the original Gallardo looks remarkably pure, compact and timeless.
This particular car enhances that character with its discreet and elegant silver metallic paintwork, combined with a black leather interior. Rather than an extrovert colour combination, this is a sophisticated specification that allows the design itself to take centre stage.
An exceptionally original example
What makes this Gallardo even more attractive is its originality. The car remains entirely in its factory paint and is accident-free. Even more remarkably, the original paintwork is beautifully preserved, showing hardly any stone chips. All of the windows are original as well.
The car was originally delivered new in Switzerland and is now registered with Belgian documents.
Mechanically, it has also been carefully maintained. Its complete maintenance history is known and supported by invoices and the original service book. The car has just received a fresh service, while in May 2026 the lambda sensors and front suspension arms were also replaced.
This is therefore not merely a beautiful Gallardo, but an exceptionally authentic and correctly preserved example.
An analogue Lamborghini from a unique era
The Gallardo was also one of the first Lamborghinis to benefit fully from the technical influence of Audi, which had taken Lamborghini under its wing at the end of the 1990s. As a result, the Gallardo combines the exotic character and drama of an Italian supercar with a level of engineering, build quality and usability that was far less self-evident in earlier Lamborghinis.
And today, that combination is precisely part of its appeal.
A naturally aspirated V10.
A genuine six-speed manual gearbox with exposed metal shift gate.
Italian design shaped by Luc Donckerwolke.
Original factory paint.
A fully documented history.
And a Lamborghini from an era when a supercar could still be ordered without turbochargers, hybrid assistance or an automated transmission.
For many years, the Gallardo was regarded as the more accessible Lamborghini. The manual Gallardo is now becoming something very different: one of the final representatives of the truly analogue supercar era.
And examples preserved in this level of originality are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
